  1. Around 88% of Twitter's staff have now left since elonmusk took over. I've downloaded my archive just in case the whole lot comes tumbling down. Come and find me at Mastodon. It's much nicer over there. simonlucas.social/@simon
  2. I’m really enjoying being on Mastodon. It feels just like Twitter ten years ago. Plus I’m not beholden to any huge, profit-focused social media companies using it. I’ve started my own server. If you know me and would like to give it a go just let me know. Free of course!
  3. It’s here! But I’m now at Mastodon… simonlucas.social/@simon
oh my god twitter doesn’t include alt text from images in their API
  4. Rather enjoying playing with Mastodon at the moment. I like the lack of ads and the fact that it’s decentralised and not owned by a billionaire. Seems like a great antidote to many of the ills of the existing social networks. I’m (now!) at @simon@simonlucas.online. (Posh, eh?!)
  5. I’m currently exploring Mastodon. First impressions is that it’s very quiet. Lots of tumbleweed rolling around and very few people I would follow. mastodon.online/@simonlucas
  6. Although from what I can see, this isn’t the case at the moment. simonlucas/1589013167694565376
  7. Ooh people in the UK can now get Twitter Blue with verification! For just $7.99 *and no proof of ID* we can get a blue tick to “prove” that we are who we say we are.
oh my god twitter doesn’t include alt text from images in their API
  8. One of the contestants on #blanketyblank is a dinosaur wrangler! (Yes, Blankety Blank is back. Again!)
  9. Everything comes in Biscoff flavour. Even deodorant.
oh my god twitter doesn’t include alt text from images in their API
  10. Reading this back perhaps I should clarify that it’s the cafés that are tired and dirty, not the disinterested staff! simonlucas/1588931673009180673
  11. It used to be a real treat to visit a CostaCoffee. They all seem to be shockingly awful these days. Tired, dirty, disinterested staff, poor availability, and today, unable actually to process any transactions… Thank goodness for new wave independents!
  12. I really don’t get this… When we use Teams to meet remotely at work (a) I don’t have to wear a cumbersome headset, (b) I can actually see my colleagues and not a weird avatar, and (c) we have legs… I would ask if this Meta stuff has legs-but clearly it doesn’t! MetaQuestVR/1585693017373016077
  13. I think I’ve been here. TerribleMaps/1588598722069352448
  14. Last night I dreamt that Sir John Major returned as Prime Minister.
  15. Is it acceptable for a Costa manager to taste my flat white when I complain that it tastes off?
  16. I see that this week everyone’s leaving Twitter to join something called Mastodon. I can’t keep up… Just in case this is the new thing, you can find me, I believe, at simonlucas@mastodon.online or something!
  17. Although his Cabinet appointments might suggest otherwise… simonlucas/1584608646407028737
  18. So do you think we’ll be able to squeeze another Prime Minister in before Christmas, or is that us done for now?
  19. I rather enjoyed watching the silliness of “Some Mothers Do Ave ‘Em” on BBC 4 (from Spain!). Never have I been more thankful to live in the era of the premierinn!
  20. At least Rishi Sunak has a semblance of sanity-more than could be said for our last two Prime Ministers.
  21. I’m very confused… (But evidently not as confused as nadhimzahawi). Cotts_J/1584100379494469634
  22. Really? Honestly? Can we please stop repeating this nonsense that Boris “got the big calls right.” Surely no one believes this any more? nadhimzahawi/1584099350048694273
  23. It would be quite interesting if at this point Rishi Sunak said he doesn't want to run...!
  24. Has StephenNolan blown up as a result of being overnewsed this week? bbc5live #5live #nolan
  25. Yesterday: Conservatives said they needed a unity candidate. Today: Johnson is the front runner. Some Tory MPs now saying they’ll sit as Independents or join Labour if Johnson wins. One even said he’ll “burn the building down” if Johnson returns. #howdiditcometothis
  26. I protest. This is not a terrible map. TerribleMaps/1583201672397889536
  27. Something to look forward to amidst the political turmoil: Boris being forced to resign as Prime Minister for the second time next month, followed by a leadership election. It’s been a while since we’ve had one of those.
  28. Add losing a Prime Minister to that list. simonlucas/1582805663251857408
  29. So what's she going to say?
  30. This is remarkable. But then this evening’s events in Westminster are all pretty astonishing. DanJohnsonNews/1582808074875973633
  31. This is insane. Jacob Rees-Mogg says this was a confidence vote. In which case Liz Truss should have the whip withdrawn, and therefore is no longer a Tory MP. Surely then she can’t be leader, and therefore not Prime Minister. kitty_donaldson/1582823352909332482
  32. First half term in new school ✅ During this half term we’ve lost a monarch, 2 Chancellors and 2 Home Secretaries. Oh, and a headteacher. We’ve also gained a monarch, a Prime Minister, 2 Chancellors, 2 Home Secretaries, a headteacher and a deputy head. Funny couple of months!
  33. I once spent a ludicrous amount of money at Zum Schwarzeskameel in Vienna-mostly on wine… I was visiting the city with colleagues, and we had a rather crazy week! schwarzeskameel.at
  34. Love this bit from an interview with Miles Jupp: /Have you splashed out?/ With my friend Justin Edwards, we did once somehow manage to spend £90 on a two-person meal in Pizza Express, although it was probably nearly all wine. telegraph.co.uk/money/fame-fortune/comedian-miles-jupp-earned-three-years-salary-one-day-work/
  35. Strange times. I enjoy the cut and thrust of politics. I’m deeply troubled by the impact of the recent political/economic turmoil. At the same time I feel sorry for trussliz, and, on a personal level, concerned for her welfare. I hope she has friends and family supporting her.
  36. I visited blacks_online in Crawley today to buy a pair of shoes. My expectations were low but the customer service was exceptional-so much so that I decided to leave a review on Trustpilot. Their reviews are staggeringly good-can’t quite believe it! trustpilot.com/review/www.blacks.co.uk/location/crawley
